The Rich Man & The Lord Jesus Christ
Luke 18: 18-23
In this passage of scriptures, the rich man, feeling confident of his achievements, and thinking himself qualified to procure some type of accolade from the Lord, said, “Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
And when the Lord granted attention to the rich man’s display of self-righteousness as a law-abiding citizen, the rich man assumed the Good Master would certainly approve his eternal inheritance. But the Lord, with love, said unto the man, “One thing you lack, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
Unfortunately, the rich man was incapable of granting that request. WHY?
QUESTION:
What was THAT “One Thing” the rich man “Lacked?”
ANSWER:—
The rich man lacked Control over his riches which the Lord had given him power to accumulate! His riches had now gained control over him.
In an effort to free the rich man of his bondage, The Lord Jesus Christ offered him a way out; telling him to give it away. This act would have freed the rich man of the trust he had in earthly treasures, while at the same time, supplying him the opportunity to partake with the richest man on the planet. He was granted an opportunity to partner with Him who could multiply his wealth 100 times the amount he had while supplying him with access to blessings that money could never buy.
But the poor rich man, due to his lack of control over his riches, turned away in sorrow, refusing to grant the request given, unaware of the fact that he was passing up a deal with the very ONE who had been supplying him with the riches he was presently enjoying.
When you’re in control, you can let it go!
Are you turning away in sorrow, or are you giving it all to God…
